Estate planning is a big step - one that your family will be grateful that you did for many years to come. So, our firm has designed a planning process to be as streamlined as possible.
Step One: Schedule Your Estate Planning Session
Whether you already have an estate plan or not, you may schedule a no cost, no obligation Estate Planning Session with Attorney Lauren Rios. Appointments can be scheduled by calling our office at (650) 727-0900 or by clicking here to book your Estate Planning Session using our web-based calendar system.
Step Two: Prepare for Your Estate Planning Session
After you have scheduled your Estate Planning Session, we will send you a Confidential Estate Planning Questionnaire requesting certain information to help us make our first meeting as productive as possible. You will also begin gathering certain financial documents to assist with the planning process. We ask that you return your questionnaire at least 3 days before your meeting so Lauren has enough time to review your information and make appropriate planning recommendations.
Step Three: Attend Your Estate Planning Session
This is an opportunity for you to meet with Attorney Lauren Rios one-on-one. During this initial meeting, Lauren will walk you through exactly what your loved ones would have to do and where your assets would go if something happened to you without a proper plan in place. For most individuals without an estate plan, this means formal Conservatorship and/or Probate proceedings. Lauren will then walk you through various estate planning options to avoid these unnecessary court proceedings.
Assuming there is a good fit between you and the firm, Lauren will help you to choose the planning level and fee that is right for your family. Our planning levels vary, but all of them are flat-fee and all-inclusive. We know our clients expect and appreciate transparency at every stage, which is why we don't charge by the hour. You and Lauren will then design a plan that will give you the peace of mind of knowing your family will be taken care of.
Step Four: Signing Your Planning Documents
Once your plan has been designed, Lauren will personally work on preparing your uniquely-designed estate plan. Lauren will then send you drafts for your review, and if you so choose, Lauren will meet with you again (either in person or over the phone) to go over your documents prior to your signing them. Then, about 4 weeks later you will sign your planning documents. If you chose a trust-based estate plan, Lauren will walk you through the funding process and give you unlimited guidance to ensure trust funding is completed.
Step Five: Ongoing Relationship with our Firm
In most law firms, the signing appointment is where the attorney-client relationship ends. However, we aren't like most firms. We are more than just document preparers. We build lifelong relationships with our clients, and you will be seeing us many more times during your lifetime.
We will meet with you every three years to review your plan and make sure it stays up to date at no additional charge. If that's not included in the planning you are doing, the set of documents you get are very unlikely to work when your family needs them. If your plan needs an update, as our trusted client, you will receive special discounts on future services. We still aren't done! We will offer a complimentary initial consultation to your successor trustee(s) to go over what they need to do during the administration process and provide them with a comprehensive manual with checklists and to-do's. We welcome the opportunity to work with them during the administration process, as well--after all, we helped craft your estate plan, so we know exactly what needs to happen to effectuate your estate planning goals!
